Clean up of Meeting
House and Barrack Street areas.
SDLP Sh. Councillor Patrick Leonard, this week welcomed the clean-up of the Meeting House/Barrack Street
areas by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.
The Junction of Meeting
House Street is currently surrounded by large trees, mounted on brick paving,
which was planted quite some years ago. As time progressed the trees have grown
quite large and as a result the roots up-lifted the brick paving around the
entire area where each trees are situated.
Following a phone call
to our office from a resident and a visit from a pensioner who had tripped over
the paving and seriously hurt their face on way to mass last weekend, our team
investigated the matter.
We found the paving in
the general area to be in a very dangerous state and contacted the NIHE
immediately on the matter arranging a site meeting within 30 mins. The Housing
Executive fully appreciate the need to sort this issue out and to prevent
further accidents to the many school children, pensioners, mass goers and the
general public.
The Housing Executive
has assured us this will be taken care of in the next week and we thank them
for their co-operation on this matter.
