MCINTYRE: NEW SIGNAGE WELCOMED AT THE FLUSHTOWN BRIDGE!

MCINTYRE: NEW SIGNAGE  WELCOMED AT THE FLUSHTOWN BRIDGE!

SDLP Sh. Councillor Jim McIntyre has welcomed new signage at the Flushtown Bridge on the Urney Road.

Mr McIntyre said “The Flushtown Bridge has been in need of a safety evaluation for quite some time. The bridge has been the scene of many accidents over the last number of months due to the double blind corner with motorists approaching the bridge at speeds reaching 60mph.”

“Many local motorists, who have been using this road for a number on a daily basis have witnessed or have been involved in an accident at the Flushtown Bridge. The winter months will add a further danger with frost and ice making a dangerous road even worse.”

“This particular stretch of the Urney road is very popular with the public who enjoy walking the route; therefore we felt that greater awareness must be given to motorists prior to approaching the Bridge and allowing them to slow down accordingly.”

“Following contact from our office to DRD Roads Service, I am pleased that the new signs have been erected at the Flushtown Bridge. These signs will improve awareness of the dangers the Flushtown Bridge presents to motorists. I hope this will help to ensure the health and safety of road users in the future.”
