STEWART: calls for re-development of buildings on Lower Main Street!

Strabane Sh. Councillor Liam Stewart has called on the owners of derelict buildings at Lower Main Street in Strabane to carry out essential maintenance work, to ensure the health and safety of pedestrians and the general public.

Mr Stewart said “In the last number of weeks we have had various complaints to our office regarding the state of derelict houses in the Lower Main Street area of Strabane. The derelict houses have been in a state of disrepair for some time and there is a concern for the wellbeing of pedestrians walking past these buildings.”

“Upon further investigation by our team it was discovered that the guttering attached to the house was in very bad condition. We felt that it had reached a point of being a health and safety hazard to anyone walking past the buildings due to the risk of this guttering falling off.”

SDLP West-Tyrone Constituency Representative Daniel McCrossan continued by saying “Not only was this a safety concern for pedestrians but it makes the area look extremely untidy and un-kept. In order to boost the potential investment prospects of Strabane, derelict buildings must be refurbished.”

“I would call on the owner of the buildings in question to carry out the much needed repair work and return the buildings to a satisfactory standard.”
