SDLP MLA Joe Byrne’s New Years Message..

In 2013 we will continue to build and grow to provide stronger representation for all!

2012 has been a difficult year in West Tyrone, especially for those who have lost their jobs or suffered reduced working hours in their employment. Many local businesses have suffered a downturn in trade and many in the construction and retail sector have experienced difficulties.

As an MLA for West Tyrone and Agricultural spokesperson for the SDLP I am very aware of the difficulties that farmers have faced in terms of poor farm gate prices, rising production costs and bad weather throughout the year.

Hopefully 2013 will be a better year for many of the local SME businesses who are working extremely hard to survive and grow. Everyone in business and consumers generally will be hoping that the banks and financial institutions will have better credit facilities.

As an SDLP MLA for West Tyrone I will continue to lobby for public investment for the two Council districts of Omagh and Strabane. In the year ahead I would like to see better employment and job creation schemes for young people so that less of them will be forced to emigrate.

We, in the SDLP, have done much work in West Tyrone over the past year and hope to grow on this in 2013.

I was at the Tyrone V Derry GAA match on Sunday and was delighted with the Tyrone victory. Hopefully we can all have good results in the year ahead. I would like to wish everyone a Prosperous New Year for 2013.
