The
local Strabane SDLP office where awarded the prestigious Dan McAreavey Memorial Trophy at the SDLP’s Annual Party Conference on
Saturday night.
West-Tyrone SDLP MLA Joe Byrne said “I would like to congratulate
everyone involved with the Strabane SDLP office in this great achievement. The
Dan McAreavey Memorial Trophy is held in the highest regard within the SDLP,
and the Strabane Branch should feel very proud of this triumph.”
“The Dan McAreavey Memorial Trophy was awarded for the great work the Strabane
SDLP branch has done to revitalise the SDLP in West Tyrone. In just over a year the Strabane
Branch has increased its member base to over 70, organised an 11 person
committee, set-up a youth group, carried out a survey of the entire district
and have been helping constituents with their problems.”
Constituency Representative Daniel McCrossan who collected
the trophy on behalf of the Strabane Branch said “I was extremely proud to
accept the award on behalf of everyone involved with the Strabane Branch. It is
great to see all the hard work put in being recognised by party headquarters.”
“There have been many branches, including the Strabane
Branch, who have been trying to win the Dan McAreavy Trophy for many years
without success. Now the Strabane Branch can proudly display the Dan McAreavy
in our office at Butcher Street. I would again like to thank everyone involved
with the Strabane Branch, without whom none of this would have been possible.”
