Sh. Cllr Jim McIntyre this week thanked the Northern Ireland Housing Executive for their swift response on tackling a security issue at Melmount Villas!
SDLP Sh. Cllr Jim McIntyre
has welcomed the placement of a security gate at the entrance to the back lane
of the Melmount Villas and Crogan View areas.
Mr McIntyre said: “In the last
number of weeks our office had been contacted regarding a demand for security
gates at the entrance to the back lane of Melmount Villas and Crogan View
areas.
“Residents feared that without a
proper locked gate properties would be susceptible to anti-social behaviour.
This was upsetting many residents, especially elderly, who worried that their
homes would be damaged due to easy access to their back lane.
“Our team investigated the matter
and felt that a locked gate with the residents having access to the key as the
best option to solve this issue. The SDLP team has been in contact with the
Northern Ireland Housing Executive in order to resolve this issue.
“We are happy to report that the
Northern Ireland Housing Executive have now placed a gate at the entrance to
the back lane in order to improve the security of residents' homes. We hope
that this will give peace-of-mind to residents and reduce potential anti-social
behaviour to properties.”
SDLP Constituency Representative,
Daniel McCrossan, added: “Many residents will now have peace of mind at night
as their back lane was frequently used as a drinking spot. The security gate
will now mean that only residents will have access to the back of their
properties.”
