SDLP Back To Grass
Roots
West-Tyrone SDLP MLA Joe Byrne
has welcomed the return to ‘grass roots politics’ by the local SDLP Team in
Strabane.
Joe Byrne said “In the past
number of months my team and I have been working on the adoption process of
Mount Carmel Heights. Unfortunately due to a series of various difficulties,
this process is still on-going but we would hope that progress be made in the
next few months. The SDLP Team have been in contact with residents on quite a
few occasions now and many expressed their concern about the condition of the
site, such as the upswept roads and long grass verges. The SDLP team believed
that action was needed and have now solved a series of issues for the Mount
Carmel Heights residents.”
“The largest number of complaints
from the residents of the Mount Carmel Heights area involved the overgrown and
un-kept grass verges which were blocking the view of the road and the area
where children play daily.
“Your local SDLP team alongside
the SDLP Youth decided at committee last week to carry out a clean-up project
of the final unadopted phase of Mount Carmel Heights. Your SDLP Community team
felt the grass needed cut coming into the winter months to tidy the area up and
make it presentable again. We hope that the adoption of the site will be
concluded in the next number of months and that the area will eventually be
maintained by DRD Roads Service. In the
mean time we would appeal to all resident to take pride in Mount Carmel Heights
and help in maintaining its appearance until such times as the adoption takes
place. The community team headed of yesterday to cut the large grass area at
the top of Mount Carmel Heights and speak with various residents around the
area.
Joe Continued, I am also pleased
to announce, following the continuous lobbying by the Strabane SDLP team that
the Roads Sweepers have now started to sweep the final phase of Mount Carmel
Heights. This party is back on the ground with the people of Strabane and will
do all we can to make life that little bit easier during this already very
difficult climate. I would to thank both the Strabane SDLP Senior Committee and
the Strabane SDLP Youth Committee in the resolve they have shown to take it
upon themselves to get this issue sorted.
