SDLP Sh. CLLRS welcomes refurbishment of derelict buildings

SDLP Sh. CLLRS welcomes refurbishment of town derelict buildings!!

Strabane SDLP Shadow Councillors has welcomed the refurbishment of two derelict buildings located on Market Street in Strabane.

Sh.Cllr Patrick Leonard said “I am happy to see the refurbishment of these buildings being completed. Derelict buildings are an eyesore on any town and would hope that other building owners in the same position will follow suit in having them tidied.”

“In the last number of weeks we have been working closely with the proprietor in order to get the buildings restored. I would like to thank the owner for his co-operation in getting this issue taken care of.”

“Derelict buildings not only upset the local people but in turn have a knock on effect on tourism. When anyone visits Strabane the last thing they want to see is a run-down building making the town look un-kept. During the current financial climate we are in, tourism is crucial to local traders.”

Constituency Representative Daniel McCrossan also welcomed the refurbishment. “Getting these buildings tidied provides Strabane with a new lease of life adding some much needed positive energy to the town. Furthermore any potential business investors can be put off by the look of derelict buildings in a town, hampering Strabane’s ability to attract new businesses and jobs. I would like to see all derelict buildings restored in order to give Strabane the best chance to attract investment in the future.”
